Steve Hutcheson

Through the years, he has played in open and BB divisions. He has stopped playing competitive volleyball but, he continues to coach school and club volleyball. Currently Steve serves as the volunteer Volleyball Coordinator for Dallas Christian Schools in Mesquite, Texas. He attended Abilene Christian University where he earned a B.B.A. and an M.B.A. Later, Steve obtained a J.D. from Texas Tech School of Law. He gives privates to individuals of all ages. Steve, along with Meredith McLean, conducts Hutch Volleyball Camp during the summers.  He is a member of the following organizations: United States Volleyball Association; American Volleyball Coaches Association, the National Federation of High School Volleyball Association, Texas High School Coaches Association and the Texas Girls Coaches Association.  In January, 2009, Steve attended the CAP III and High Performance Coaches’ Clinic at the Olympic Training in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Steve holds the USA Volleyball CAP III certification.

Philosophy:  Coaching volleyball is more than coaching the game. I believe that the concepts of working with a team, making your needs subservient to those of the team, and striving to perform at your best in every endeavor of your life are all taught through the game of volleyball. The Bible speaks of us being many parts of one body.  This principle is also applicable to a volleyball team. I know of no other sport where each member of the team is critically involved in every moment of the game. All parts must be working together for the benefit of the whole. It is my responsibility as a coach to facilitate the harmonious working of the parts to obtain the desired results.  When I coach a team, I try my best to not mention that we must win but, I will tirelessly urge that each player perform at her best. If she does so, winning is a by-product of her performance.

Always play at a level that allows you to hold your head up when you come off the court. (John Wooden)

Two of my favorite verses are:  “Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it for the glory of God.”  I Cor. 10:31.  Also, “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”  Micah 6:8.

Soli Deo Gloria.

Meredith McLean
14 National Assistant Coach

This is Meredith’s first season coaching with Victory. She played at Dallas Summit for 4 years, and previously coached at Texas Assault for the last 2 seasons.  Meredith graduated from Dallas Christian in 2008, where she played 3 years at the varsity level. As a 2-yr. team captain, she earned 1st Team All District, All State Honorable Mention, Newcomer of the Year, and MVP honors. She coached 1st through 8th grade girls at DC volleyball camps for 3 summers. Meredith also worked Hutch Volleyball Camps the past 3 summers, and this previous summer she was the co-director of Hutch Camp. Meredith’s hopes of competing at the collegiate level were altered due to two significant knee injuries, but it became a blessing in disguise because it led her to Dallas Baptist University, where she continues to enjoy her passion for volleyball by playing on intramural teams, sand volleyball, and keeping the books for the DBU Women’s volleyball team the last 2 seasons. She’s working right now to get her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology, and then on to occupational therapy or teaching, and coaching.

Her favorite verse is James 1:2-4 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of you faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
