Live to Win

LIVE TO WIN…
Does this mean to win at all costs?
Does this mean that winning volleyball matches is all that matters?
Does this mean to live life focused only on personal achievements and success?

Winning, Volleyball, Success, Achieving goals: these things are all good. But Jesus tells us that there is more to life. In the Bible, throughout the New Testament, Jesus teaches a principle about life: “So the last will be first, and the first will be last." (Matthew 20:16) Additionally, in Mark 10:43-45 Jesus says: “…Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

So what does this mean for my life, for your life, for VICTORY Volleyball Club?

The common definition for winning, particularly in the context of volleyball, means to be first -- to win a game or a match or a tournament. But what does it mean to win in life? Jesus turned everything upside-down when he taught that self-sacrifice and love define winning. In other words, a winning life is a life focused on loving God and loving people.

How amazing that the son of God, Jesus Christ, came to earth as the perfect example of living to win! As the above scripture states, he did not come to be served, but to serve. This is what we want our athletes to focus on for their team. How can they contribute to the success of their team, not just in performance, but in kindness towards teammates, respect to referees and opponents, and in deciding it is God and team first.
